Kamala's answer was mocked as a non-answer deflection

Kamala Harris had a few times during the debate with Donald Trump where she appeared to deflect the real question and provide an 'answer' that didn't actually answer the question. This is a known tactic by politicians who either don't have an answer, or know you won't like the answer, so they deflect or change the topic and ramble on about some nonsense. In this case, Muir asked a question, and Kamala went right into deflection mode. Kamala was mocked for this.

MUIR: "Do you believe that Americans are better off than they were four years ago."
 
KAMALA: "I was raised as a middle-class kid..."
