Stacey Abrams brother-in-law faces human trafficking charges

Democrat Stacey Abrams keeps finding herself in the breaking news headlines. This time her brother-in-law was arrested and faces human trafficking charges. His name is Jimmie Gardner, 57, and he was arrested down in Tampa, Florida. The arrest happened after a 16-year-old girl told police she engaged in s-xual acts with Stacey Abram's brother-in-law in a hotel room, according to a criminal news report on WSBTV. The crime news report on Jimmie Gardner said the teen girl talked to police, telling them Gardner contacted her in the am hours one night, around 1:45am, and wanted her to come to his hotel room. WSBTV reported the following about Gardner's incident with a teen girl:

Once there, Gardner reportedly offered the girl money for sex. She initially agreed, but when she changed her mind, she said he became angry and began choking her.

After he stopped and left the hotel room, she called 911.

By the time police arrived, Gardner was gone. He was arrested just a few hours later, according to jail records.

He’s charged with human trafficking, lewd or lascivious touching of a minor and battery.

Gardner is no stranger to the law. He had an incident in 1990 where he was wrongfully convicted of s-xually assaulting an older woman. He spent 26 years in jail for this, but then his conviction was vacated and he got out of jail in 2016. Following his release from prison, he married Stacey Abram's relative, Judge Abrams Gardner - a federal judge in Georgia. They got married in 2018 and Jimmie Gardner started working as a motivational speaker. He also spent a few years in the baseball minor leagues because he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs.
