Tim Walz and Kamala HQ push Vance's 'fact of life' quote out of context

Social media accounts for Tim Walz and Kamala Harris were pushing a JD Vance quote out of context on X. JD Vance was speaking about a recent school shooting and stated that he wanted more security for schools and doesn't like the fact that Americans have to deal with this. Both candidates focused on Vance saying it was a "fact of life" but ignored his pleas for being prepared and having more security to protect people.

Kamala HQ posted: "JD Vance responds to the deadly shooting in Georgia by saying school shootings are just “a fact of life” and attacking common sense gun safety reform." Vance did not say it like that at all. Vance also made a strong case for keeping schools safe and bolstering security.

Tim Walz retweeted the Kamala HQ post and said, on his own account: "This is pathetic. We can’t quit on our kids — they deserve better." And again, Vance wants to make schools safer and there was no indication Vance wants to "quit on our kids."

Vance's actual quote is in the video above and quoted below: "We don’t have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. We’ve got to deal with it... I don’t like that this is a fact of life, but if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children they’re not able.

AP reported the following: "Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance said Thursday that he lamented that school shootings are a “fact of life” and argued the U.S. needs to harden security to prevent more carnage like the shooting this week that left four dead in Georgia."
